Celebrating excellence in roofing craftsmanship, the Meistari Roofcraft Awards 2026 proves there’s a lot more to a good roof than simply keeping the rain out.
The best roofing work combines technical knowledge, good materials, careful workmanship and, particularly with older buildings, a real understanding of the building itself.
So when our Managing Director, Chris Hopkins, was invited to join the judging panel for the inaugural Meistari Roofcraft Awards, it was an opportunity we were delighted to be part of.
Held at The Queen at Chester Hotel on 7 August 2026, the inaugural awards brought together roofing professionals from across the industry to recognise some of the very best examples of roofing craftsmanship.
The awards covered a range of roofing disciplines, with entries assessed on factors including technical complexity, choice and use of materials, workmanship, attention to detail and the overall approach to the project.
For Chris, who has spent more than 35 years working in the roofing industry, being asked to judge the entries was a real privilege.
And, perhaps unsurprisingly, it wasn’t an easy job.
A roof can look impressive in a photograph, but judging good roofing isn’t just about what you can see from the ground.
The judges had to look more closely at how each project had been approached. Were the right materials used? Had the technical challenges been properly considered? Was the workmanship of a high standard? And had attention been paid to the smaller details that can make such a difference to the finished roof?
These are things we consider on our own projects every day, particularly when working on traditional and heritage properties, where getting the details right really matters.
Good roofing should look right, perform properly and be built to last.
As well as judging the entries, Chris had the pleasure of presenting one of the awards on the evening.
It was great to see the hard work and skill of the winners recognised — and to spend time with other people who care just as much about doing things properly.
The inaugural awards were a fantastic opportunity to put the spotlight on something that can sometimes be overlooked: the skill and craftsmanship behind a well-built roof.
Roofing is a practical trade, but there is a huge amount of knowledge and experience behind doing it well. That’s particularly true when working with historic buildings, traditional materials and more complex roofs.
A big thank you to the Association of Master Roofers, the Meistari team, the fellow judges and everyone involved in organising the event. And, of course, congratulations to all the entrants, finalists and winners.
